How these numbers are made

A posting asks for AI skills when the skills we extract from it include an AI skill or AI tool: LLMs, generative AI, prompt engineering, AI agents, machine learning, PyTorch, ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, or AI tools in general. We hand-checked 400 postings tagged only with general AI skills: 94% named AI in their requirements or duties.

An AI role is one whose title names AI, machine learning, LLMs or a related field. Abbreviations count only in capitals, so an Italian “addetto ai servizi” is not an AI role. A plain “Data Scientist” is not counted unless the title names AI or machine learning.

The pay comparison covers full-time engineering, data and product postings that state pay in US dollars a year. It compares AI builders with everyone else at the same level. No company adds more than three postings to any figure.

An AI-native company is one whose core product is AI: model labs, products that could not exist without AI models, AI infrastructure, and training-data and evaluation providers. A company that added AI features to an existing product is not AI-native. A language model classifies each company once from its description and job titles, and corrections are reviewed by hand.

The data covers active remote and hybrid postings that Remote Jobs Rock collects from companies' own applicant tracking systems (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workday and others). Job aggregators, staffing agencies and gig marketplaces are excluded. That makes it a large, direct-from-employer sample. It is not a census of every job, and it leans toward companies that hire through those systems. The figures are recomputed every day, so they can differ from an earlier visit. The CSV shows the date of each figure.
