About the Harvard Program in Therapeutic Science - Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology:
The Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology (LSP) is the youngest research unit at HMS and its investigators come from universities across the Boston area and from HMS-affiliated hospitals. LSP research focuses on the fundamental science underlying the discovery of new therapeutics and diagnostics and their subsequent testing in humans via retrospective studies and clinical trials. Our students, fellows, and faculty use a team science approach to combine methods such as lab-based experimentation, data science, and artificial intelligence. This generates petabytes of data that require pro-active management. We are also committed to an open science approach, and work with like-minded organizations and government agencies worldwide to make our data accessible to as wide a range of users as possible.
We invite applicants for a Data Manager position in the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology (LSP) and Program in Therapeutic Science (https://labsyspharm.org/) at Harvard Medical School (HMS) in Boston, Massachusetts.
A successful candidate will have a biology and/or information science background as well as a strong commitment to scientific data management. Software scripting and coding skills are a plus, but not required, as is previous experience in a biomedical research environment. A strong attention to detail and understanding of the laboratory processes will be essential for curating scientific data which will include clinical data elements, biospecimen and experimental metadata, and raw and derived experimental data generated by LSP lab members. In addition to managing data on institutional and cloud storage resources, the candidate will maintain a range of scientific websites aimed at explaining the LSP mission and providing access to specific types of data (see for example https://www.graybrcaatlas.org/). Additional tasks include contributing to grant and manuscript writing, participating in training lab members, and attending scientific conferences. The Data Manager will be able to manage day-to-day tasks and exhibit sound judgement while not hesitating to consult the team on more complex scenarios. As a member of the data management team, the candidate will work with a senior-level data manager and the director of software engineering. They will work under the direct supervision of a Senior Scientific Program Manager and work closely with HMS faculty members, including LSP Director Prof. Peter Sorger. This is an in-person position with the possibility of a hybrid schedule of up to two remote days per week, pending manager approval.
