We want our work to have a positive impact on the environment — helping people to live healthier, happier lives while respecting natural limits. We build without destroying, explore without exploiting, and seek to reuse rather than just consume. Above all, we listen, learn, and aim to create a lasting legacy.

Thriving together, today we have a team of over 200 members working across the UK, all united by our creative belief, bringing art and science together to solve problems. Our award-winning practice has studios in Manchester, London, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dublin.

Requirements

The role will be based in the South East of England and will be responsible for supporting projects across the Home Counties and Greater London. Working arrangements are hybrid, with the successful candidate expected to attend the studio for part of the week.

Scope of the role

The Project Manager will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination and delivery of archaeological fieldwork projects. The role includes organising site logistics, managing staffing requirements, arranging plant and equipment hire, monitoring project programmes and budgets, and ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently and to professional standards. The Project Manager will oversee the preparation and delivery of reports in tandem with the post-excavation team, maintain communication with clients, contractors and stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Knowledge of the planning process and national and local planning legislation.

Day-to-day task and expectations

• Plan, manage, and deliver multiple archaeological fieldwork projects simultaneously, ensuring programmes, resources, budgets, and project objectives are effectively coordinated and achieved.

• Liaise with contractors, clients and local planning archaeologists.

• Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and archive deposition.

• Produce post-excavation reports (Microsoft Word) in tandem with the post-excavation team.

• Input into bids.

• Prepare Project Designs / Written Schemes of Investigation and RAMS.

• Responsible for own time management and others.

• Community engagement and/or educational presentations, when required.

• Self-checking and reviewing other team members' work.

• Ensure projects meet regulatory requirements.

Essential

• Experience in dealing with complex archaeological sites

• Proficiency in relevant software (GIS, CAD, database systems)

• Excellent written and verbal communication

Desirable

• Degree in Archaeology/History (or related/relevant field)

• First aid trained

• UK driving licence

• Chartered Institute for Archaeologists membership

Behaviour and Professional Commitment

• Enthusiasm

• Professional judgement

• Excellent client care skills

• Proactive

• Demonstrating behaviour consistent with Civics’ Values and contributing to the progress of the organisation
