Compensation Consultant - Classification & Pay Equity

AlphaGov delivers public-sector consulting for cities, counties, school systems, special districts, utilities, and related agencies. Our work spans classification and compensation, organizational and operational studies, research and program evaluation, economic and workforce analysis, surveys and community research, and applied data and infrastructure research.

We engage experienced practitioners as project-based collaborators. Engagements are remote-first with occasional client travel. When you authorize it, AlphaGov may name you as an expert collaborator or key personnel on proposals that match your expertise. AlphaGov is building a bench of compensation consultants for classification, compensation, and pay equity studies for cities, counties, transit authorities, utilities, and special districts. You would lead job analysis, job evaluation, market pricing, and pay equity analysis for large public workforces.

We confirm scope, schedule, and fee with you before any engagement begins.

What you'll do

• Lead job analysis using position questionnaires, interviews, and job description updates
• Apply point-factor or similar job evaluation methods and build classification structures
• Conduct market salary surveys and benchmark jobs against peer public employers
• Run pay equity and internal alignment analyses and recommend remedies
• Build pay ranges, implementation cost estimates, and appeal processes
• Present findings to executive leadership, unions, and governing boards
• Contribute qualifications and past-performance narrative to AlphaGov proposals when you authorize naming

Requirements

Required

• At least 7 years in classification and compensation, including public-sector employers
• Hands-on job evaluation and market pricing for large position inventories
• Experience with pay equity or internal equity analysis
• Comfortable as a 1099 project-based consultant

Nice to have

• Classification or compensation work for a transit authority or utility
• Experience with represented workforces and collective bargaining
• CCP, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR certification
