The Role
Planning and scheduling tasks across our complex nanosatellite constellation and ground station network is critical to Spire’s business success. These tasks include radio communication between space and ground as well as orbital maneuvers to hold positional goals, including converging on and holding multi-satellite formations.
We are seeking a skilled Mathematical Software Engineer to help enhance our ground-based systems responsible for that critical scheduling capability. As that engineer, you will contribute to the development of our intelligent automated systems for planning the operations over the upcoming hours and days. You will design, build and deploy new features of our scheduling systems to make them more capable and resilient.
What you’ll do as a Mathematical Software Engineer:
- Develop new scheduling capabilities such new types of orbital maneuver planning, or ground-system contact scheduling strategies.
- Iterate on features based on stakeholder feedback and evolving requirements from the business.
- Build and refine observability dashboards and alerts.
- Support live operations of constellation scheduling software.

Key Skills:

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- Programming in Rust (our primary language) or other compiled languages
- Combinatorial optimization and/or mixed integer programming
- Orbital mechanics and manoeuvre planning
- Experience in the space industry
- Cloud / containerization technologies such as AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, microservices.
Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
