What you can expect when joining the team
As a Software Development Manager, you will lead one of Petal’s empowered, multidisciplinary delivery teams, bringing together developers and technical leads to deliver high-quality software efficiently, sustainably, and in alignment with product strategy.
Sitting at the intersection of people leadership, delivery execution, and cross-functional collaboration, you will create clarity, drive accountability, and translate strategy into actionable delivery plans. In close partnership with Product Management, Architecture, and your team, you will foster an execution culture grounded in Agile and Kanban principles, continuous improvement, and measurable outcomes.
Your strong judgment and technical literacy will enable you to engage meaningfully with engineers and architects, challenge assumptions constructively, and make sound delivery decisions. You will coach and support your team, helping individuals grow while building a high-contributing culture based on ownership, collaboration, trust, and impact.
You will also play a key role in Petal’s AI transformation, helping teams adopt new ways of working, improve productivity, and innovate responsibly. A day in the life
In your day to day, you will:
Lead and support a multidisciplinary delivery team (typically 8–12 people) by setting direction, providing feedback, and fostering accountability.
Plan and oversee delivery execution, ensuring that the team has clear objectives, realistic timelines, and effective prioritization of work.
Collaborate closely with Product Management and Architecture to align on vision, define scope, and ensure solutions meet both functional and technical expectations.
Identify and remove delivery blockers, optimizing the team’s workflow, tools, and processes to enable consistent execution.
Coach team members on problem-solving, communication, and professional growth, while cultivating a healthy, high-performing team culture.
Maintain visibility on quality and performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement in delivery velocity, product quality, and predictability.
Bring a point of view: act as a thought partner to Product and Architecture, balancing technical feasibility, customer value and business impact.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, focusing on performance, delivery, and enhancing user experiences through AI and automation.
As a Senior Engineering Manager for the Grafana Frontend, you will lead engineering squads, enhance user experience, and drive AI and automation initiatives to improve team performance and delivery.
Lead and develop the Custody team at Mercury, focusing on technical strategy, system design, and collaboration to enhance customer asset management.
Lead configuration management activities for complex enterprise engineering systems, ensuring disciplined control and compliance across various software and hardware environments.
