Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human

Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence.

This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk.

At Okta, we are building the future of secure, enterprise-grade cloud automation and system connectivity. We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our global Automation Engineering team to design, scale, and govern our enterprise integration substrate using AWS cloud services and modern iPaaS platforms.

This is a senior individual contributor role for a hands-on system engineer who can set technical standards, establish integration best practices, and partner with cross-functional teams to automate complex business workflows at scale

What you will do :

  • Drive the architecture and strategy for self-service cloud automations, creating paved paths that enable builders across Okta to connect enterprise systems seamlessly.
  • Design, build, and deploy high-throughput event-driven integration flows, API gateways, and async orchestration workflows using AWS serverless architectures and iPaaS platforms.
  • Build reusable frameworks, developer SDKs, self-service primitives, and integration templates to streamline automation delivery.
  • Serve as a technical expert on AWS cloud services and modern iPaaS tooling, driving scalable architecture, reliability, and builder enablement.
  • Partner with operations, security, and platform teams to strengthen monitoring, observability, structured audit logging, and automated governance.
  • Mentor engineers and influence engineering culture across teams, instilling a platform engineering mindset and raising the bar on code quality and DevEx.
  • Collaborate with security, compliance, and business stakeholders to ensure self-service automations are secure, resilient, zero-trust aligned, and enterprise-ready.
  • Maintain and enhance platform primitives and integration components to meet evolving enterprise and builder requirements.

What we are looking for :

  • 12+ years of software engineering experience in Java and Python, focused on platform engineering, backend systems, distributed architectures, and enterprise integrations.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks (React, Next.js, TypeScript) to build intuitive developer portals, operator dashboards, and self-service interfaces.
  • Deep expertise with AWS and event-driven architectures alongside enterprise iPaaS platforms (Zapier, n8n, etc).
  • Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices: IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), CI/CD release automation, API contract design (REST/GraphQL), and unit/integration testing standards.
  • Experience in platform reliability, central logging, error recovery, operational observability, and self-service governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success in building internal platform tools, self-service capabilities, or paved paths that empower and accelerate engineering teams across an enterprise.
  • Hands-on experience with AI development and integrations, embedding LLM capabilities, agentic primitives, or intelligent features into cloud automations.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven SDLC practices, leveraging AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate software delivery while maintaining safety and quality guardrails.

Why Join us :

At Okta, you’ll join a global Automation Engineering team building secure, enterprise-grade cloud automation and system connectivity. You’ll shape the platform foundations, integration patterns, and self-service capabilities that help teams automate complex workflows at scale. If you’re passionate about building platforms that are scalable, resilient, and secure, this is your opportunity to make an impact across Okta.
