Full job description

Are you the financial partner we are looking for to drive project success?
Do you have a sharp analytical mindset, strong financial expertise, and a proactive approach to challenging assumptions and driving data-driven decisions? Then we are looking for you!

The Challenge

As a Project Controller, you will act as an independent and trusted financial partner to the Project Manager or Unit Director, supporting sound decision-making and ensuring strong financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.

You will transform financial data into clear insights on project progress, costs, cash flow, profitability, forecasts, and risks. Working proactively, you will identify deviations early, challenge assumptions and plans, and provide clear recommendations to improve project performance and financial predictability.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Business Controllers, and Finance, connecting project finances with broader financial, accounting, tax, and risk requirements. Your role will go beyond reporting, helping stakeholders navigate complex situations and ensuring effective financial governance and control.

  • Project Financial Management: Oversee the financial performance of projects from tender through execution, ensuring effective financial control.

  • Budget & Forecasting: Monitor and optimize budgets, profitability, cash flow, working capital, and forecasts, challenging assumptions where needed.

  • Risk & Contract Management: Identify and quantify financial risks and assess the impact of contracts, changes, variations, and claims.

  • Reporting & Analysis: Prepare budgets, forecasts, and monthly reports, translating financial data into clear insights and recommendations.

  • Compliance & Finance Alignment: Ensure compliance with Deerns' risk framework and local accounting and tax requirements, supporting financial closing and audits.

  • Stakeholder Management: Partner with project and finance teams, providing independent advice and constructively challenging decisions.

  • Process Improvement: Drive improvements in financial processes, reporting, data quality, and digitalization.

The Team

You will join Deerns' international Project Control community, working closely with Project Managers, Business Controllers, and Finance teams across the organization to ensure strong financial governance and project performance.

Based in Barcelona or Madrid, you will be part of a growing and dynamic Spanish office that works on international, high-impact projects across Europe and beyond. You will report hierarchically to the Manager Project Control, while working closely with and providing financial reporting to the Business Controller responsible for your projects.

You will operate in a multidisciplinary and international environment where collaboration, responsibility, innovation, and professional expertise are highly valued.

Who You Are

  • You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • You have 8+ years of experience in Project Control or a similar financial role, preferably within an international and project-based environment.

  • You have strong knowledge of financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and risk management.

  • You have advanced Excel skills and a strong affinity for data and financial analysis.

  • You are experienced with ERP systems and financial processes.

  • You have experience with tax processes, including VAT and corporate income tax.

  • You have practical knowledge of the Spanish General Accounting Plan (PGC).

  • You have experience with annual financial closing processes and supporting external audits.

  • You possess strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to challenge and advise stakeholders at different organizational levels.

  • You are fluent in Spanish and English.

  • You act with integrity and transparency and bring structure, reliability, and stability to complex projects.

  • You proactively anticipate challenges and identify risks before they become problems.

  • You are a trusted challenger who is comfortable questioning assumptions constructively.

  • You make practical decisions, balancing governance and flexibility according to the project context.

  • You turn data into decisions and translate financial analysis into concrete actions.

  • You have a digital mindset and are curious about improving and automating processes.

What We Offer

  • A key role in international, high-impact projects, where your financial expertise directly contributes to project success.
