Who we are:

Illumia is an industry leader in bringing the best integrated technology solutions to education, healthcare, and business campuses worldwide. Illumia was built on the collective expertise of two legacy cultures, and brings together people, technology, and insight to pioneer the art of the experience across the communities we serve. Be a part of this exciting organization and improving the lives of people doing mission-critical work.

This position is hybrid if local to our office in Alpharetta, GA or Scottsdale, AZ.

Alpharetta, GA - 1125 Sanctuary Parkway, Ste 220, Alpharetta, GA 30009

Scottsdale, AZ - 18700 N. Hayden Rd, Ste 230, Scottsdale, AZ 85255

Why join our team?

We strive to provide the best customer experience in the industry and have succeeded with a single, strong motivating principle: We serve our user community.

Our success and growth are directly attributed to our people. Our newly named company is dedicated to fostering a culture of integrity, respect, and continuous personal development. We maintain an entrepreneurial spirit, where creativity, innovative problem-solving, and learning agility drive our day-to-day actions.

What you will be doing:

The Director of Product Management owns outcomes for a defined portion of Illumia's Higher Education portfolio. This leader builds and leads one or more empowered product teams, each organized as a trio consisting of a Product Manager, Product Designer, and Tech Lead. The Director is accountable for the teams' discovery practices, roadmap quality, and business outcomes; hires, coaches, and develops Product Managers; sets the standard for discovery and prioritization; and represents this portion of the Higher Education portfolio in cross-functional and executive planning. This leadership role focuses on outcomes for the campuses we serve rather than directing feature delivery.

Who you will work with:

Reports to the Senior Director, Higher Education Product Management, and leads a team of Product Managers. Partners regularly with Product Design and Engineering leadership to keep trios staffed, coached, and operating as intended. Works with Product Marketing on positioning, messaging, and go-to-market timing across this portion of the portfolio. Collaborates with Sales, Customer Success, Implementation, and Support to understand campus workflows and adoption across registrar, bursar, campus IT, housing, dining, and student life functions. Represents the product area in executive-level portfolio reviews and planning.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Owns outcomes for a defined portion of Illumia's Higher Education portfolio, working through Product Managers rather than directing delivery personally.
  • Hires, coaches, and develops a team of Product Managers, including performance management, pay reviews, and growth planning.
  • Establishes and protects continuous discovery practices across their teams: customer interviews, workflow observation, prototyping, and usability testing.
  • Ensures every team evaluates opportunities against the four product risks—value, usability, feasibility, and viability—before committing engineering capacity.
  • Holds teams accountable for outcome-based roadmaps built around objectives and key results, rather than fixed feature lists and dates.
  • Coaches Product Managers on opportunity framing, stakeholder communication, and defending prioritization calls with evidence.
  • Partners with Product Design and Engineering leadership to keep trios genuinely empowered, with design and engineering involved from the start of discovery, not after requirements are set.
  • Builds the business case and narrative for major investments within their product area, in partnership with the CPO and other product leaders.
  • Reports on portfolio health, discovery coverage, and progress against objectives to executive leadership. Uses telemetry and usage data, not delivery milestones alone, to judge whether outcomes are actually being achieved.

What you bring to the table:

  • 12+ years of Product Management experience in B2B SaaS or enterprise software, including 5+ years of formal & direct people management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience running and coaching continuous discovery: customer interviews, prototyping, and usability testing.
  • Experience operating in, or building, an empowered product team model, where Product, Design, and Engineering share accountability for outcomes.
  • Ability to make and defend prioritization decisions using evidence, under incomplete information and competing stakeholder demands.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to and influencing executive level stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead a team, setting clear expectations and creating growth paths for Product Managers.
  • Preferred qualifications include familiarity with SVPG or Cagan-style continuous discovery practices, including the Opportunity Solution Tree technique; experience building products for colleges or universities or in another campus-based or trust- and compliance-intensive environment; familiarity with the workflows and constraints of registrars, bursars, campus IT, housing, dining, or student life offices; and experience managing a portfolio of product areas or leading managers of Product Managers.

Essential Functions of the job:

The duties and responsibilities described in this job description are intended to represent the essential functions of the position as defined under applicable federal, state, and local labor laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These functions are the fundamental job duties required for successful performance.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions unless such accommodations impose an undue hardship on the organization.

This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities. Duties may be added, removed, or modified at any time in accordance with business needs and applicable law.

What is good to know:

Travel up to 15%

Competencies and Behaviors

  • Continuous discovery: Runs regular discovery activities with customers rather than treating research as a one time event before a launch.
  • Evidence based prioritization: Makes prioritization calls grounded in customer and market evidence, and can defend those calls under pressure.
  • Trio partnership: Shares ownership of outcomes with a designer and tech lead, and brings both into problem framing from the start.
  • Outcome orientation: Measures success by the customer and business outcome achieved, not by whether a planned feature shipped on time.
  • Cross functional trust: Builds credibility with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Support through evidence and follow through rather than authority.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: Operates effectively when the right solution, and sometimes the right problem, is not yet known.

The following reflect Illumia's core leadership values and apply company wide:

This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and applicable state wage-and-hour laws.

What you get when you join our team:
