Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant with a strong background in Australian taxation and compliance. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured environment, takes ownership of their work, and communicates clearly and professionally with both internal teams and clients.
You will be responsible for preparing accurate financial reports, managing tax compliance obligations, and ensuring all work is review-ready. The ideal candidate has at least three years of hands-on Australian tax experience and is confident using Xero and Xero Practice Manager (XPM).
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships, and sole traders
- Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations
- Assist with month-end and year-end reporting processes
- Prepare workpapers and maintain clear documentation for review
Taxation
- Prepare and review Income Tax Returns (ITR), Company Tax Returns, Trust Returns, and BAS
- Assist with FBT, PAYG, and other compliance lodgements as required
- Ensure deadlines are met in line with ATO requirements
- Identify potential tax issues and escalate appropriately
Client & Team Communication
- Communicate clearly regarding missing information, deadlines, and outstanding items
- Work closely with senior accountants and reviewers to ensure accuracy and quality
- Provide timely updates on job progress within XPM
Systems & Process
- Manage jobs and workflows through Xero Practice Manager (XPM)
- Maintain accurate client records and job tracking
- Ensure bookkeeping data in Xero is clean and reconciled prior to preparing financials
- Follow established SOPs and contribute to process improvements
Required Skills and Qualifications:
