So kann der im Produkt enthaltene Wert erhalten und im besten Fall sogar gesteigert werden. Damit dies gelingt, braucht es geeignete Geschäftsmodelle und Organisationsformen. Eine zentrale Rolle spielen dabei Produkt-Service-Systeme, bei denen Produkte durch Leistungen wie Wartung, Updates, Monitoring oder Optimierung ergänzt werden. Viele bestehende Ansätze sind jedoch noch zu starr, um kontinuierliche Anpassungen und Upgrades über den gesamten Lebenszyklus hinweg zu ermöglichen.
